Golden Mount Fair

 

Held the first week of November in Bangkok and is one of the noisiest temple fairs. Carnival rides, food stalls, variety performances and product stalls are the main attractions.

 

Loy Krathong—Nationwide

 

Loy Krathong is one of the most beautiful festivals anywhere in Thailand and is held on the night of the full moon in November. It is a night when Thais launch small candle-laden boats into the rivers and canals to ask for blessings, creating mesmerizing dots of light and shimmering water everywhere.

 

Yipeng Festival—Chiang Mai

 

This festival creates a mesmerizing sight, a unique ritual of the northern capital's Loi Krathong festival by launching of Lanna-style hot air balloons, considered by locals to rid them of their troubles.

 

Dok Bua Tong Wild Sunflower Blooming Season

 

The hills and valleys of Mae Hong Son, one of Thailand's most naturally scenic areas, turn to gold when the Dok Bua Tong wild sunflower (Tithonia Diversifolia) comes into full bloom during this period.
When the flowers fade, the seeds are collected and made into insecticides.
Doi Mae U-kor mountain peak in Khun Yuam district of Mae Hong Son is considered to be the an excellent location to enjoy the splendour of the sunflowers in full bloom.

 

Phimai Festival—Nakon Rachasima

 

An annual festival held for more than a century, the traditional long-boat races draws thousands of visitors from all over. The celebration featuring a light and sound presentation at Prasat Hin Pimai, local art, cultural performances, cooking, folk song competitions, local products sales, exhibitions and traditional long boat races.

Elephant Round-up—Surin

 

This internationally-famous event brings crowds of visitors to the provincial city of Surin, where some 100 trained elephants are assembled. Among the spectacular features are wild elephants hunts, tugs of war, demonstrations of log pulling skills, and a parade of elephants outfitted of warfare.

 

River Kwai Bridge Week—Kanchanaburi

 

Event highlights include historical and archaeological exhibits, a carnival, folk and cultural performances, rides on World War II vintage trains, and a spectacular light and sound presentation re-enacting the bridge's World War II legacy.

 

Silk and Phuk Seow Festival—Khon Kaen

 

Khon Kaen is one of the major centers of Thai silk production. Many shops offer the beautiful fabric at this fair, which is combined with the traditional “Phuk Siew,” the friendshipmaking ritual. Colorful street processions and typical Isan cultural shows as well as exhibits on the silk industry add to the fun of the fair.
Chinese Banguet For Monkeys—Lop Buri

 

Over 500 monkeys enjoy a delicacy vegetarian Chinese-style banquet, replete with Thai fruites and popular desserts, at the cities of Prang Sam Yot and Phra Kan Shrine. The quet is staged at 10.00 a.m., 12.00 noon and 2.00 p.m. Special gifts, including mirrors and toys, will be presented to the monkeys.
